Nakayama sensei-the top instructor in Japan until his his death in 4/15/87 or so, author of Best Karate books, on Shotokan kata.

Corrections, from Gil Hartl, 3rd dan, Corvallis Karate School:
Nakayama died 4/15/87

2nd photo down was taken at the old OMAC dojo on McLoughlin in Portland.
Not sure of the year. '83 sounds right. I thought Sensei Fitzpatrick
was 5th dan.

4th down was taken at the Riverside Grange hall between Corvallis and
Albany. Kevin Greene was the sensei there for a couple of years.

7th down, from left: Kevin Greene, George Clark, Alex Tong, Vince
Nistico, Greg Bryant, Ron Vance, Simon Giszter, Gonzalo Valdez, Terry
Samura, Karen Schlom. Don't know what year but it had to be early '80's

8th down, with Fusaro (who as far as I know is 7th dan), that's the 1982
nationals in Minneapolis. I'm the competitor on the right.

9th: Reed and Simon Giszter

12th: that's at U of O, year is 1982 or 1983

15: another shot at Riverside Grange

17 from left: Vern Vaden, ?, Yamaguchi, Shirai

next to last: Sensei Shirai

Vince Nistico, Kevin Greene. Kevin Greene was a teenage prodigy in Shotokan who trained at Central with Nishiyama, attained 3rd degree, returned to Oregon and became a state police officer (!). We haven't seen him in many years. He ran the Riverside Grange dojo between Albany and Corvallis for a few years in the early eighties, before my time.
